    It appears that the total number counts all the linked contacts as the number of links. So if I have a person as a Facebook friend, a LinkedIn contact and a personal contact on my phone, and I link all 3 entries, it still counts as 3 separate contacts, not one. I wish I could find out how many distinct contacts I have.
