Thoughts on BB10
There are tons of cool features on BB10 and RIMM still has more in store. But, there's one little cool thing about bb10 that I really like. On the home screen, at the bottom, there's the three touch screen button things. I don't know what to call them. But it's the camera, a search system, and phone app. That's honestly, probably 3 of the top 4 things I use most on my phone... The 4th being BB universal inbox, or now the HUB
.. but seriously, that is so convenient. If you wanna snap a picture quickly or make a quick call, its RIGHT there. And even if you're in an app.. It takes on swipe gesture from the bottom to get the home screen. I will be using the new bb10 so fast it's insane. I am so pumped. Everything is right there and so easy and so fast to get to. I am in love with bb10..
on a side note.. I'm curious as to how you're supposed to multi-task.. like go from app to app directly. I hope its still left to right or right to left swipes like the playbook. that's one thing RIMM hasn't addressed yet. idk, maybe there's more things RIMM hasn't addressed yet that yall are wondering about that I'm not thinking about right now.. All I know is that I am beyond hyped right now. - 01-17-2013, 12:01 PM #2
I agree with you on the 3 actionable icons - Phone, Search, Camera. BlackBerry 10 looks like a very focused product. It makes the most important functions the most accessible, and the Peek, Flow, Hub concepts streamline communication. Not to ignore Android, which has basically an unlimited array of widgets and functions you can bring to the screen, I just love the implementation on BB10. It's so well thought out. I'm beyond pumped as well.
As for multi-tasking, I'm betting that PlayBook-like swiping will come with an OS update down the road. Someone had posted concept images for how this type of functionality would work on a BB10 phone. Basically it extends from the Peek swipe-up gesture. Swipe-right to go into the hub, swipe-left to go through previous apps (those open as Active Frames), or continue the swipe-up to close out an app completely. - 01-17-2013, 12:02 PM #3

Yeah, I almost forget about those.. with ICS you have to hit the search bar way up top to search. On the iPhone your only option is swiping to the left or pressing the home button twice, then once. BB10, it's just right there. Actionable search at your fingertips is superior to almost every other type of interface, as it's a one stop place for everything from contacts, to emails, to internet searches.

Not since ICS on screen buttons. The search button is gone. The three buttons are now becoming standard ("back" button, recent apps button, and menu button/home button)

Re: Thoughts on BB10
Actually all three of those phones have search from the bottom buttons (I've owned 2 of the three). You simply long press the left button on the bottom phone and the right button the top two phones...simple enough.
Actually the Nexus 4 buttons are customizable I believe...so you may be able to make either the center or the right button the search button on long press.

I'm still holding out hope that they allow for those buttons to be customized. I'd like to choose my own 3 dock icons
