    Just woke up to my phone flashing itself crazy on 0% Battery, it was fully charged when I left it last night.

    It's quite obvious the culprit. Uninstall nightly alarm and let's see how your battery fares on subsequent nights.

    It's certainly not my App Nightly Clock, 14%, it wasn't even open and it's not headless (I even coded it to use as little CPU as possible)
    OS must have crashed it somehow

    If you are running imap, make sure you are not syncing too often. Four hours is fine.

    It isn't like imap mail won't be in sync if you don't sync hourly. I think the sync operation is more like a double check.

    I'd certainly look into performance testing Nightly Clock, not that I know what it does but for a clock it's usage looks extremely high. Perhaps something isn't being handled correctly?

    Looks like it crashed on close, I terminated it incorrectly (debug mode seems to do that) no big issue since it's only me that can happen to.
