The title's kinda long, but I don't wanna make the wrong first impression. I wanna make a QR code that a BlackBerry 10 can scan through the Smart Tags app. When I try to create a tag from Smart Tags, I can only write to an NFC tag, not writing it directly as a QR code. How do I make a QR code without first writing to an NFC Tag? Because I don't have an NFC tag

There are LOTS of options available for NFC tags in there, but one of the interesting part is the ability to set ringtones and network settings in one go. I want to create a QR code for that and print it to put it on my desk, so when I get to my desk I can just scan it and everything sets itself up.

Now, I know this is actually trivial, but I just wanna test simple stuff first.

Why not just use an NFC tag? More convenient because you don't have to start an app, just swipe your phone over it.

Because I don't have an NFC tag. I wanna see what is possible first, because eventually even with an actual NFC tag it'd be limited to what is available from the Smart Tags app itself. I'd like to test the waters

Select the type of tag you want to create, fill in the details and press save in the top right corner:

To see the QR code, long press on the tag and tap the Show as Barcode button in the overflow menu. From there you can save it as an image and share it.

Hmmm, it doesn't work with the Smart Trigger tags, which is my main area of interest. It looks like it's not possible to get the bar code for those outright. Thanks for the tip mate!

I was thinking of getting a tag that would set your profile to silent and display a message "welcome to your office". Would be frickin' awesome, but the idea is kinda novel so I wanna try it with cheap materials first. Looks like either I try it with an actual NFC tag or nothing at all

Well of course it doesn't work with those. QR codes are just encoded text, so they can be URLs, Notes, Contact cards, Events, etc. You can't save device instructions as QR codes.

That being said, re-writable NFC stickers are very cheap. You can get a set of 10-20 for just a few dollars from Ebay or Amazon.
