I'm trying to run a software update but I don't have enough room on my phone! I have deleted every single application, even the ones that came pre-loaded with the phone. I moved all my photos and videos to a media card, but there is still 6.7gb of "Other Data". It says I need 1.9gb free for the software update. I cannot find out how to get rid of this other data for the life of me! Is my only option to reset to factory settings? Because at this point I think I might have to resort to that.

You have to do a wipe. Sorry

So does that mean every time I somehow gather this mysterious "Other Data" I have to wipe my whole phone? Wtf!

    Do you sideload??
I found the improper removal of Side loaded android apps left behind a mess.
Since I began to remove them with the software that I use to install them, I have not had the other data problem.

I'm going to assume you're not running the newest OS version, as 10.2.1 does not have that category in device manager anymore. Perhaps the issue has been resolved and you just need to wipe, and update to avoid it?

Delete apps like twitter, facebook and crackberry if you don't want to wipe the device first. These were holding close to 1gb combined on my device.

The op wouldn't have device monitor if they are seeing the other data category under device storage.
That was the old device storage details.

I suppose you two didn't read the post, just the title.
They said that they have deleted ALL apps already....

What I don't get, is if everything has already been deleted, why not just do the wipe? The settings, contacts, and emails can all be restored if backed up.

Is she on an Android device?

I had the same issue w my HTC One.

When updating from 4.2.2 to kitkat 4.4.2 it didn't overwrite the old os, it instead just added an extra 4.7gb of "other"

It is a known glitch within the Android Community.

You cannot delete it from the device, unless rooted, which thankfully I am.

See the posts here. I didn't have to wipe the handset (Z30) the instructions I got from this thread worked.

The last thread I participated in that resolved the "other data" issue changed their device to USB mass storage mode, hooked it up to their computer USB port, ran Check Disk on the USB drive that popped up, and deleted all of the CHK files that showed up. I haven't tried this yet myself but a couple of people indicated it worked and saved them wiping their card and copying all of the data back. Please note you can't use USB mass storage mode if you encrypted your storage card.

And I was just regurgitating what others had found out. No credit for me figuring it out (I'm not that smart).

I think the other data is on the device, not on the SD card.

This will clean up the sdcard, which is not involved in doing an OTA. Your OTA should not have suddenly started working.

Try holding the volume up and volume keys down for at least 30 seconds. The BlackBerry will take a screen shot and then eventually reboot. Keep holding those keys down until the blue BlackBerry symbol appears, then release. This should clean up your other data and also recover the space from the apps you deleted.

    I don't sideload apps
My browser is broken so I can't clear my cache
    I'm on a Q5
and all this "Other Data" is in my device, I've had my phone for a couple months but just started using a media card recently.
So I'm just going to wipe my phone...

Is there any way for me to backup my contacts to my media card before I wipe my phone? I backed up contacts to my sim card but it didn't transfer all of them. Plus I switch between sim cards because I go back and forth between England and the US (and I plan on switching providers when I return to the US)

I use Firechest backup from BlackBerry world

What do you mean your browser is broken?
Once you update to 10.2.1 you shouldn't have the issue anymore.

Actually, Mayor's advice worked great for me, every time a runaway process (usually PIM) would consume ALL my remaining space.

Get Fire Chest Backup PRO. It will be your best friend.

It supports both SD card and Dropbox as well as a truckload of data types. And the intuitive UI blows the competition (?!) out of the water.

    More features are coming...
