RIM has said that the carriers only need to test the radio and and OS update is at RIMs discretion. I would think that after the 4G LTE PlayBook is on the market bb10 could "technically" launch at any time. If the LTE PB is different from the phone then the Dev Alpha could be in carrier testing NOW and the real OS would be updated when purchased. Its possible...

Just imagine if it did drop in August. That would completely cement the new transformation of RIM. New CEO, PlayBook up and running, great new OS and device released earlier than anticipated. Doesn't hurt to hope!

I think they need to have this out by August. I am convinced of that, hit the back to school market and run all through the holidays, they have to get back in the game. Like someone else said it would show the complete turn around this current CEO has pushed forward.

The state of the Alpha Devices have nothing to do with this! The Alpha Devices are more OS2.0 than BB10. Let's not get confused and think the Alpha Devices represent where RIM is with BB10 AT ALL! They have even said it's a modified PlayBook OS, not a slimmed down BB10 OS.

I do hope we see an August release. If RIM releases the phone after or very close to the new iphone's release, they won't see the window of opportunity they probably need to have a fair look at the device.
