    Hi,
Maybe it's a stupid question but I was wondering what the splash screen on app opening is used for...
I mean, If I want to open an app, I already know which app will actually open. I don't need a reminder.
Is it just a loading time that is needed to open the app? Some of them are really too long (can go up to 8-10 sec).

Yeah, it's a loading screen. If 8-10 seconds is your longest one, you're ahead of the game - I've heard some apps can take up to 30-40 seconds on similar screens.

Should show version numbers to be useful.

The idea of splash screens originally (other platforms) was to quickly indicate that something was happening rather than the user doubting they'd clicked on the icon / believing an application had crashed.

This was particularly important for apps that were slow to startup. On other platforms I've seen cases where the long startup time was almost exclusively caused by loading a complex splash screen.

Just to add to what has gone before, on BB10 the splash screen is an image loaded by the OS before the application can do any work. The developers ' site are BlackBerry has lots of advice on how to get applications up and able to respond to the user in useful ways in a very short time, under a second in many cases. It is a shame that so many developers don't follow this advice.

I think it just beats having a blank screen, till your app of choice is ready...

Agree! I also prefer it rather than a blank screen. But sometime, duration is too long. For example, Crackberry app one is perfect!

The splash screen is there so you won't be looking at a black screen while the app is loading. It shouldn't take longer than a few seconds imho.
