Honestly, the BB10 Skype app is horrendous.
It crashes, takes forever to load, buttons don't work, and it's just frustrating. Video calls also never work even with good 4G service.

Google Talk for BlackBerry is super basic and easy and fast. Just like WhatsApp/BBM etc.

Is there any "Lite" Skype alternative that's realistic /works...?

    Thanks.

I have skype working here... Have placed calls to landlines as well as video calls. There are no alternatives, it's the official or nothing...

It sounds like you could do some maint on your device, see if that helps...

BBM will be at some point. Right now it is a pretty good substitute between BlackBerry users.

    Powered by BlackBerry Z30

Right but I mean for Skype contacts. I use BBM too of course.

And I've tried the app on three BB10 devices. It's terrible.

Also, the reviews in BlackBerry World have hundreds of users also stating the app is completely unstable. It's very frustrating. I don't see why they didn't just make a lite version that was actually usable.

You should try the version from Snap. It's supposed to be better.

    Skype...

I got myself an iPod Touch as a substitute for my Z10, so I can run native (and very stable) Skype and Viber. It's way better than the Android variants I've tried (both on the Z10 and on real Android devices).

I use an old Android version, 3.1.439.21, that I have sideloaded. It works very well. I have tried the BB10 version and this one works so much better. It is faster and I have had no issues. I see no reason to upgrade to the newest Android version or the BB10 version.

I'm using the android port from BlackBerry World. It works fine for me over wifi and the 4G mobile network. BBM video would be preferred for everything, but for now Skype will fill the gap. I need to be able to have voice and video calls with my domestic and international contacts who are on pc's. A desktop BBM client would probably render Skype to the back seat.

Both BB10 and Android Skype work fine on my Q10.

From Android, you can check out WeChat, Facebook Messenger and Viber as alternatives to Skype.

you can install any android app directly on your phone but you will need something like SNAP which would need to be side loaded from the pc.

Also as mentioned there are a few other alternatives such as viber. Even though that is also an android port and not exactly what you may call 'lite' since its meant to be a fully functional chat messenger but maybe it'll work better for you as compared to Skype.

Actually you can Google the android and look for the download option. Once you have the apk file downloaded on your phone you can directly install it.

The old Android version I use works very well without 10.3. Too often "updates" become bloated and use too much system resources. The old one has worked very well, even allowing calls from a ship on Cellular @Sea, which is slow. Video calls work fine on a regular network.

    Apps Store :
1Mobile, Amazon, Aptoide app stores allow you to download and install the Android apps without sideloading from PC. Just install the app store apps will do.

    Direct :
Yeah, you can download and install the APK files from the your BB browser directly to your phone.

Snap is my preferred app store. Just sideload it once from your PC and you'll have access to Google Play Store in your phone.

Skype from Snap works better on my Q10 than the Skype (preview) from BB World.
There's Bria that has great reviews on the store, it's a native app but it costs 6.99 Euro.
    Has anyone tried Bria?
