Sim Free Z10 OS Update Clarification
Hi guys, I've been doing some reading lately because I just noticed I couldn't get update OTA on my sim free STL1002. I am still running the same old buggy 10.9.2x OS I have had since day 1 and from what I have gathered so far, the only way to get an update is by plugging in a sim card from a carrier that has pushed out an update.
My problem is I am in Australia and no carrier has released the Z10 yet. Does this mean I have to wait until Telstra and Optus release the Z10 and wait again until they push an update before I can see some improvements on my OS performance? Isn't there a way like the good ol' days to just download an updated STL1002 OS and flash it and restore everything after reloading the OS? If I knew this before hand I would have not forked out so much money to buy it sim free in the first place but oh well...
Sorry if this has been posted before...all I see on the other threads are sim free update questions from people who live in countries that have access to a carrier sim that can push an update so the queries are solved right away without discussing scenarios like mine.
Any help's greatly appreciated. - 03-09-2013, 01:41 AM #2
Grab an Optus pre-paid sim and use that. $2.00. Sorted.

Yep. An Optus sim will cause the update to be pushed to you. Strange but true.

Mine is stl00-2 LTE unit in indonesia, updating using expired M1 Singapore sim.card. I got 2 updates 157 and 727mb.
Initially 348 now at 10.0.10.90.
So you get any Vodafone or optus or any sim from any carrier that has released the update and you're good.

You beat me to the punch. Sunday mornings are sleep in time around here.
I was going to say you don't need to activate the card at all, either. Dead easy. Hang onto it for next time.

Re: Sim Free Z10 OS Update Clarification
yeah it was just by accident that i wasn't able to activate the sim...i got home at around 11 last night and went to the optus site to activate the sim but they were down...called the activation line and the agent said they are down until 4am so i just went ahead and checked for updates with a non active sim just using wifi and there it was...no need to activate the sim at all cheers mate!

I have the same problem.. can anyone be so kind enough where can I get an Optus sim online and ship it here in Philippines... I'm kinda getting annoyed that the .85 / .90 isn't pushing here yet
(or an M1 SIM from Singapore)
On a second note, our carrier will release the phone at March 19, I'm hoping that the update goes along with it. - 03-10-2013, 04:06 AM #18I sent the club a wire stating "Please accept my resignation. I don't want to belong to any club that will accept me as a member." - Groucho Marx

I have a Vodafone UK sim coming. I bought it before I found out the Optus one will work too. I can send that to you, but honestly by the time you get it your carrier will have the device I guess.

Optus has not released the Z10 here in Australia. I believe it will be available on the last week of this month. Yet, their sim pushes the update already. Who's releasing the Z10 in the PH on the 19th? is it Globe or Smart? have you tried checking for an update on their sim now? I think it may be a similar case with Optus being in pre-release at the moment.
