It uses the open source webkit which Apple heavily contributes to, so it's part of the user agent

...sure, but Google warns me repeatedly of login from safari device... isn't BlackBerry ashamed even a little?

If they were ashamed they would change the UA string, people used to do it for fun. There was even a plug-in for Firefox that let users set it to what ever they want.

In the end the UA string is there so that serves know what capabilities the browser has, not for manufacturers' vanity.

It also has a mention of BB10, remember the problem legacy devices had with crappy dubbed down websites served to them

If you are always using desktop mode, then it will never show BB10 in the agent string, otherwise the website will see that and deliver the content for a mobile device.

The agent string tells the website the capabilities of the browser that's talking to it.

Basically, what you report is not a bug in BB10, but due to how you have configured your browsers settings.

    There's your answer,

    Desktop Mode = Safari masking
Non Desktop Mode= BB10 with the usual Apple webkit mentions

And that's just web browsers. Purpose built applications that use HTTP to communicate with a backend implemented on a Web server will use completely different UA strings that may not mention either the device or the OS. Just the way the Internet has evolved.
