I wish I could swipe up or down on any page of app icons to get a page of the most recently used apps.

Make the background different to do this or provide some other BIG visual cue.

I wouldn't mind that, although I have for pages of apps in various folders, and page 1 is most used, page 2... you get the idea.

I started launching most apps from the universal search. Works good for posts to Facebook, Twitter etc too. But the advantage to it is it becomes a list of the most recently searched for and launched apps.

That way the next time i hit the search key I see my 20 most recently launched apps.

How i get around that is basically, have those on page 1, in the search, or in an active frame.
