I've searched the forums on my z10 here and can't find the right thread or answer to my question. So I always keep everything on my SD card. Certain things like saved photos off Internet, screen shots, and downloads from the native browser automatically save to the respected folders on the device, so I go to file manager and move them to the same folders on the SD card. Now if I enable encryption on my phone and not the SD card, if when I go into the file manager and say move a photo from the photos folders on device to the folder on SD card, will the file still be encrypted on the SD card and only readable on the device? I usually take my SD card out every so often and backup right on my laptop. I want to be able easily transfer my SD card back and forth between the z10 and other devices without files being encrypted to the z10. So if I were to do this would everything be fine? I know it's probably a dumb question so sorry if it is.

Encryption only applies to the files on the encrypted drive.

I believe it encrypts and decrypts on the fly. In the relatively brief time I had a Z10, the phone, but not the SD was encrypted. Didn't hinder use at all.

You can use BlackBerry Link to transfer when the card is encrypted
