I'm familiar with QR codes but not well versed on their usage.

If I was to put contact information into a QR code, how does one scan it to their contacts list?
I tried a sample and when scanned with Smart Tags on my Z10 it correctly displays the information, but there's no way to add it to contacts.

My goal is to put a QR code on a business card for quick saving into a phone.

    So, a couple of questions:

    1) Does the QR code have to be formatted in a special way or contain special information that allows the phone to handle the data like a vCard and auto-add to contacts?

    2) How do iOS and Android devices handle this?

    Thanks!

Yup, I did. Hence why I asked the question here. Not every Google result is the same.

I searched with several terms such as QR code vCard, QR code contact information, etc....

Saw nothing that answered my questions above.

QR Code are simply encoded characters string. If you want to create a QR Code with contacts info, use the vCard or better MeCard format. Remember that the string length is limited and that you can add redundancy. You can use the Smart Tags app to create one, but there are websites with better settings to play with.

    Try the one from Unitag.

I advise you to stick to the formal info (don't put to many fields, only the essentials ones) and apply a 4 way redundancy. By doing that, the data is replicated 4 times, so you can replace a section in the middle of the QR Code with a logo for example. The data will not be lost that way and your QR Code will be personalised

Now, the mobile user on the other end needs the functionality to read this QR Code and ask the user if he wants to add the contact. There are solutions stocked in the OS, or via an app.

By the way, there is also a QR Code on my business card
