So reporting back:
My plan worked but only for about 4 hours

So now removing contact and calendar syncing. Each of these accounts have about 2000 contacts and v few calendar entries.

Removed from a yahoo account and flushed the caches. Big dip on memory used by PIM but temporary improvement. All activity soon resumed and memory used went back to almost same

This am removed a second yahoo accts contacts and calendar. Got similar amount of memory back, CPU and battery usage dropped to NIL for past 9 hrs.

Nothing else had any persisting improvement.

Is still syncing emails for these accounts.

One gmail account with about 2000 contacts, dozens of daily emails and a few calendar entries was untouched.

LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook also have not been modified.

It seems the PIM is choking on a problem with certain contacts and gets stuck, error not getting caught and managed

And a day later the Z30 has more than half battery left after 14 hrs off charger. No more changes were made.

One of the email accounts was messing up the PIM and the PIM couldn't resolve it.

Will add back calendar for the offending account tomorrow if all stays good , but staying with one email contact list
