Beware: 6 seemingly great smartphones you should NOT buy right now

Down the list of do not buys is the passport because BlackBerry has given up its os in favour of Android. While I know this isn't the case I hope BlackBerry get onto them to get this assertion corrected.

Does BlackBerry have to respond to every rumor? On the other hand, how do you know that information is untrue?

Regardless, I don't think there's a chance BlackBerry will outright abandon their existing BB10 customer base.

BlackBerry ought to counter if it's untrue because more eyeballs see phonearena.com than crackberry.com for sure !!

Even if BlackBerry did discontinue BlackBerry 10, they will keep supporting the phones software for years to come.

I know this because I used Symbian for two more years after it was discontinued.

Actually,.. I have to say this is exactly how I feel about recommending the Passport to anyone right now.

To be fair, that's a pretty good list to be in,.. and if it raises awareness/excitement for the possible Venice,.. then even better.

I mean, it's not like people are buying the Passport (or any BB10 device) in droves and this sort of 'pre-hype for the future model' will 'kill' sales (hint: they're already dead). In fact, someone looking for the Note or Moto may bump into this article, and decide to put off their purchase out of curiosity for the Venice (since they will now be in the same 'realm' of alternatives).

When will that support really begin anyhow, let alone end?

That's not what the article said at all. It just says that Blackberry is coming out with a new phone running Android, and that a potential buyer should wait for that phone and get all of the great apps that it will make available. The article doesn't say anything about BB giving up its OS. My guess is that its just a testing item to sample the market for a line of phones running Android, and possibly it will be used to test the ability to run a merged form of BB10 and Android.

Ya.. BlackBerry had give up BlackBerry 10, they plan to push out BlackBerry 12 which is already in the way that no one knows about this.

Just like Microsoft giving up Windows 8, they push out Windows 10 on yesterday.

BlackBerry 12 will be with BlackBerry Z30 successor equipped with new leading edge Paratek Antenna, graphene battery technology from Samsung (this is why they collaborate a lot with Samsung recently and no one is aware of this...), Corning Gorilla Glass 5, 4GB of RAM and Intel Atom Multi- Threading processor.

The operative word is MAY have given up on it's operating system. They way the article suggests it, phonearena seems to have unwittingly excluded BlackBerry's other models that would run BB10.
