I heard April. Bla1ze reported that someone asked at the classic Q and A and they said February but later corrected to April. PLEASE CORRECT IF I HEARD WRONG. (I really hope that's not true)

    I'm a bit concerned…

BB has never committed to a firm rollout date for the official release, and the rumours have slipped from Nov. to Feb. (I've seen some saying Mar-Apr, probably referring to the carrier rollouts).

They are really coming dangerously close here to alienating a large portion of their existing customers by actively promoting the new features of 10.3/10.3.1 while making their existing customers wait 6+ months. Anyone remember the PlayBook? Its coming…. Its coming… Too little, too late, they alienated their existing users, and the product flopped despite being quite good in the end.

In BBRYs quarterly report it was interesting to note that device sales were DOWN from the same period last year. Meaning that there were more Z10s, Z30s, Q10s sold than Passports, and as an obvious result more BB users on older BB10 devices.

I find the marketing surrounding the Classic ironic given the fact it was aimed at giving existing customers what they want. Well from the sales figures it seems there are a quite a few users on BB10 devices waiting for an official release of 10.3.1...

There are a ton of posts attempting to justify BBs actions here by comparing BB to Apple(buggy OS releases) or Android(no updates) and stating we should be happy we are getting anything at all…. That logic won't save BB. The fact of the matter is that Apple and Android users are willing to endure those inconveniences in exchange for being on a market leading platform with a huge app/developer base. Many users WILL migrate back to other platforms as a result of delays in the rollout of 10.3.1 to existing devices. Try BB once, and done.

BB needs to do a BETTER job that Apple or Google in terms of customer satisfaction to regain market share by changing public perception, convincing customers to migrate from larger platforms, and retaining existing customers.

They had a major opportunity here in rolling out 10.3.1 simultaneously to all users to exceed customer expectations and build loyalty - they blew it. The best they can do now is commit to a firm release date to carriers and stick to it.

If the OS isn't ready for ALL devices? Then it just isn't ready for release… It should be held back until its ready for widespread release to avoid favouring only those buying new devices, and avoid alienating existing customers.

Many will chime in with lots of arguments defending BB, and making excuses for the company's decisions. Im a BB fan. If the company is to survive, they need existing users actively singing the praises of the company and its products, not making excuses for the company or defending its actions.

I don't know what BlackBerry is planning for its company but they should really rethink their actions. Why would people who already paid for the phone have to wait months for updating their phones? The most striking issue is BlackBerry does not care about promoting their products. Another shocking thing for me is that in Turkey BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 were well promoted and sold by every carrier two years ago, now non of them sells BlackBerry anymore Passport did not make its way here. Z10 was available within a month since the release.

Someone at BB made a choice, and needs to be fired for it.

BB is a company with limited resources, and the decision was made to allocate those resources into rolling out 10.3/10.3.1 to new devices only, while making existing users wait 6 months. It wasn't an A or B choice… It could have been an A AND B choice..

I really can't understand why it couldn't have gone like this:

10.2 is updated to accommodate the unique features of the PP and Classic, and both devices are likely rolled out earlier with 10.2 as a result of only have to modify 10.2 instead of develop 10.3. The added features in 10.2 for the new devices can then be carried into the development of 10.3.

10.3/10.3.1 & Blend are then focused upon with the aim of a universal rollout once the software is ready.

PP & Classic users are happy because they receive a major update soon after getting their devices. Existing users are happy because they aren't excluded from the rollout of the new OS/features, forced to wait 6+ months for an official release.
