Hey everyone,
I purchases some NFC tags and had them programmed with my phone. I set the option on both my personal and work phone so NFC can work "When locked or backlight is off". I've tried to scan an NFC tag and no go. only way I can get it to work is by unlocking the device.

any ideas?

That's how the NFC works, only when unlocked. Otherwise, with apps like mobile payments, someone could tap your phone as they walk by and get some info from you, etc , and it saves battery if not always on.

Why is there a setting in BB10 to allow NFC when device is locked or the screen is off?

Also a setting to enable NFC when the device is turned off.

It explains it right there... Can only be used as an access card when screen is off.
