It does play MKV media...the only issue is that it will not play if the audio is encoded in DTS. It now supports AC3 audio which is a lot better then the playbook. You can easily check to see what type of audio is in the file you have by using VLC media player on your computer. Just launch the video on your computer and in VLC, go to Tools, Codec information, codec details. If DTS is not listed there then you should be good to go.
I can't get over the quality of playing my high res movies on the device and even playing them back on my TV using the HDMI cable. Now I wish i had purchased a smart tv so I could use the "play on" feature and send the signal wirelessly to the TV. Oh well maybe I'll invest in a DNLA certified console like an Xbox360....
How do I find the codec information using MPC? Also, does the Zed10 support subtitles, ALL anime has subtitles that are not part of the actual video.
I found this, does that help?

File --> Properties --> MediaInfo Tab

there we go.
