Has anyone received 8 Mb updates after the initial 149 Mb update? I received one right after the first update and now another.

The usual, when you delete one of the pre-installed apps like Sportsnet and the system wants to put it back.

Yeah this is pretty annoying, this mini-update on my end installs LinkedIn, Foursquare, a YouTube shortcut, and Telus My Account. Would probably install some other stuff as well if I didn't have it installed already (Facebook, Twitter, maybe Newsstand?). Whenever I uninstall any of them, it just ends up prompting me to update again. This really shouldn't be happening... if I chose to uninstall the apps, why would I want them back under the silly guise of an OS update?

Confirmed, it's the stock apps that it reloads as an "update". I still can't find evernote that everyone else seems to have though.

There's no Evernote app at the moment (though I believe the Android app can be sideloaded), there's just Evernote integration in the Remember app. If you want to try it yourself, just add your Evernote account in the Hub settings.

Not going to happen, Blackberry would be slitting their own throat if they thumbed their noses at the carriers, which are a crucial part of every handset sale they make.

As with the previous devices, if you don't want to use that stuff, just create a 'junk' or 'unused' folder, stick them in there and forget about them.
