    I know these are early versions of the official releases. But are they safe? I mean, who are the individuals releasing them and how can we be sure the OS hasn't been tinkered with or modified in some way?

    They are from the BlackBerry servers. They are safe.

    An OS will not run on a BlackBerry phone without the appropriate signing keys. Safe is the operative word.
