This is why native app developement must go on. Use as many native apps as possible and even if you use the android variant, keep the native one in your device to show support.

I bet this starts happening with others. The android solution is only a temp fix at best.

Does Facebook depend on Google Play Services? If so, patching it may restore its functionality

It is, but apps and Google Play Services aren't.

If this is what it looks like, it could be a response to Microsoft's recent interest in CM.

But first, someone else should confirm that the new Facebook does run on Android 4.3 on an official OHA Android device. If so, then we know Google is starting to block other access to Play apps.
Apps can be open source also if dev wants it too.

This whole Google Play issues is why I don't support Google but support Android. Google has been trying to make Android closed source but since they can't they will lock down their services

I actually think the native Facebook app is better than the Android version. No news feed issues and you don't need a separate app for chat, as well as all the rather invasive permissions Facebook insists on. No ads, too.

On my Android I use the mobile site in the browser, that's how bad the app is.

Check out the comments on Google Play.

But to each his own, I guess.

The official android facebook app needs Google services to be installed since the last two versions or so. That's why it doesn't work anymore on a Blackberry.

Honestly blackberry did some good work with the native Facebook app lately. No need for an android version.
