I have noticed that apps minimized in a crammed get different color after some time. They look like apps that were active when the device was restarted. See the picture below. Is there a default setting for making them inactive? Or is this just the way the new OS is now working?

    Whatsapp and BBM app

Must say I've never seen it do that before, Native Applications do have a isAsleep signal so they may be putting themselves into a sort of sleep mode after a certain amount of time.
    Just a theory

I think your device does this when it is running low on memory. It thinks you're not really using those apps anymore so it reallocated the RAM to use for other things.

Still have over 500 MN free memory. Let me restart the device and see. If it is indeed doing this to conserve memory then it is a pretty smart move from BlackBerry.

Whenever you have less than 750mb, the os starts to close apps automatically. A quick restart should free up a lot more ram

Or maybe it tries to save battery? Do apps in active frames consume battery?

An Active Frame is a open App, just like an App showing in the Window Switcher in Android or other OS's, battery usage depends on the App.

I know for sure that it happens when the phone runs low on memory.

Close unused browser tabs when you're done with them. Close as well Android apps running in the background from device monitor

    Simply 
