Default If BB10 won't require BIS, what does that mean for end-to-end encryption?

From what I've been reading, BB10 won't require BIS. If so, what does that mean for those who want end-to-end encryption? Will BIS be available through the carrier or RIM for an extra fee? Will some carriers run with BIS and simply hide the cost in a "BlackBerry plan"? Without BIS, will data still be sent through RIM's servers and receive the encryption-and-compression treatement?

    Thanks guys.

Doubtful about browser data being sent through RIM servers anymore, though obviously BBM still has to go through them. E-mails will not be going through them anymore, from what I gather. So, in short: the "end-to-end" encryption is gone unless you're still on BES through corporate. Just my two cents.

my best GUESS from what i've read so far is that security (encryption) should be as good if not better than what's currently used,,, the details on BIS are a little sketchy, but there are rumors of some type of tiered plan w/ regards to the amount of compression available,,, see post below...

    Data compression?

As I read in an article earlier, BIS didn't have end to end encryption anyway. Only BES.

Pretty sure it was never end to end as cj says, that's why India demanded and by most accounts got access.
Also if you are using any service with HTTPS such as Gmail, its already encrypted btwn you and the servers, you don't need to go through RIM.

What does this mean for using the Z10/LE/X10 before a carrier has picked it up?

I've got a BIS plan at the moment with my 9900. When my LE arrives, I plan to switch the sim into the LE and continue business as usual... but if my carrier hasn't adopted BB10 by then, my plan might not cover the internet/etc properly. Which means the LE/Z10 would be useless until if/when they pick up BB10.

I think you would need to switch to any regular Data plan, like an Android or any other 3G device would use.

    shouldn't matter... I'm using a 6GB BIS plan with my HTC 8X.

on the provider end the only difference between a BIS plan and a regular smartphone plan is a blackberry.net apn on the account to access blackberry data (other way around doesn't work of course).
