Is the "Hub" a bit of a dog's breakfast?
With the exception of poking around at the Z10 in the store, I haven't used the device much. So admittedly my opinion has been formed based primarily on what I've seen in videos and we all know there's a big difference between watching something and actually using it.
To me, using the hub looks like one of those memorization games involving playing cards or a ball under a cup. There's a lot of flipping back and forth and it looks easy to "lose your place" unless you're really keeping up with where each page is going as you flip through them all. Swipe one way you get one thing, swipe another way you get something else.
Does anyone get this feeling while actually using it?Heins: "We have only one opportunity to get this right".
Nope, it's not gone well. - 02-12-2013, 03:55 AM #2
Now I've used the hub for a week or so I just use it without thinking, one place to access most of my notifications. It did take a few days to get used to.

One thing I wonder about though, is what if you don't want certain emails or messages showing up,in the hub? Is there an icon you can use to read them separately?

I'm enjoying the hub. I've only had my phone about 18 hrs lol but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. And you can navigate in the hub to show only certain emails, your texts, fb, twitter etc...

The hub is a new feature that was brought out and will constantly been updated. It's just the beginning so it's a damn good, solid start to access information quickly.

To add to what Thunderbuck said -- Go to the Hub Settings > Hub Management and then pick what items you want displayed in the Hub (emails, BBM, texts, calls). The items that are not selected to be viewed in the Hub can still be viewed individually (eg Gmail, Outlook, calls, BBM etc).

The hub is just more efficient than having separate apps for all your messaging. I love it.

Those who had a Dev Alpha will attest to how availability of the Hub since launch has changed the way BB10 is used. I spend a lot of time in the Hub, rarely going to the app grid (in fact, I find myself using universal search than trying to find the app in the app grid). The Hub is really something hard to show off on video; you have to experience it yourself and use it. The more I use the Hub, the more I like it. The invocation framework through the Hub with Peek (either Peeking at notification or Peeking back into the Hub) is utterly ridiculous and best experience I've had on mobile hands down.

How can the hub be confusing?? How dumb are people getting ?? Now tapping through LABELED email accounts, text messages is now confusing. How hard is it to open the hub and you see the recent notification in bold tap it and respond to it. I just cant take how stupid people are right now its friggin labeled you look and tap smh.

Have you looked at your TV guide lately? Toddlers in Tiaras, Honey Boo Boo... I could go on and on. And still you have to ask? Makes me embarrassed to live in North America to be honest.
On a side note, I have a craving for McDonald's junk food now for some reason just talking about this...Carrier controlled updates is the worst smartphone spec of them all

I love the Hub. It is pure genius. Felt natural to me in five minutes. I can no longer accept any other platform as legitimate anymore. This new Z10 leap frogs the competition and demonstrates BlackBerry's commitment to success. Very innovative.

Known fact: people are stupid. Always have been and always will be a lot of stupid people. How do you think companies like Disney and apple are hugely successful? Because the majority of "Adults" are no better than toddlers with bigger vehicles and can simply be told what to think and purchase en masse.

Hub rocks by the way. BlackBerry has always made the best, most reliable devices. Hub is a brand new and hugely innovative way to connect and organize data. Z10 is the hottest phone on earth. I don't care if Samsung makes a 12 core android nuke phone, the z10 was designed from the ground up by an awesome group of people who clearly poured all of their positive energy into something truly special. All BlackBerry does is think and obsess about communication, they're experts at making wireless communication devices and this new mobile computing platform has one thing in mind, mobile computing. BlackBerry doesn't make fridges or components their competitors engineer, they take cool tech and make awesome kit out of it, from the ground up, hardware and software.

I'm sorry, but after having played with the device, I just don't see how the Hub is anymore useful than having a well organized home screen. Other than the Unified Inbox (which has always been a bonus about BB), maneuvering around the Hub seems no more efficient than (and less so in some cases) my current setup. Even with the tip I seen on the front page about holding the back arrow, and then sliding right to open up the other options in the Hub, you are at a 2 gesture miminum. Bury yourself a few layers within an app, and it's even more. Granted, it's a novel idea, but after having enabled gestures on my Android to mimick those on BB10, I found moving around the Hub more cumbersome than what i'm used to.

You might think that, but the ability to post directly into feeds like Facebook etc... without having to open the app itself, log in etc... is pretty unique and something a unified Inbox didn't have.
