I'm having trouble getting a new windows tablet to detect and connect to my z30 hotspot. The tablet wifi is fine - works on all other open and secure wifi networks, but not my z30 or wife's 9900. With the 9900, if I create an open hotspot (no security) , it will connect fine.

I don't see an option in the z30 to create an open hotspot.

I can use Bluetooth tether, but it is slower, and more cumbersome to connect.

    Thx

I've never had an issue using my Z30 as a Hotspot.

In Settings/Networks & Connections, there should be able Mobile Hotspot as an option. Or are you saying you have turned that on and it won't work?

After using once, the future time you open Mobile Hotspot, the other connected device(s), such a to tablet, should connect automatically.

Here's how to open a Hotspot with some screenshots.

From Hub or home screen, swipe down from top of screen to open Quick Settings. Select Settings.
In Settings, select Network and Connections.

    Select Mobile Hotspot.

Toggle Mobile Hotspot on and ensure "Allow devices to connect" is enabled. What it shows for Wi-Fi Network Name will be what you see on other devices when you search for Wi-Fi networks.

You can tap Configure in bottom bar to set certain options.

When you have Mobile Hotspot enabled, at top left of your home screen you'll see this concentric circles icon.

The mobile hotspot feature on my z30 works with other devices, but not my new lenovo yoga 2 windows tablet. It's weird. The tablet works great on all other hot spots, and other devices have no problem connecting to my z30, but the two don't seem to want to "talk" to each other.

Since my wife's 9900 works with it when open but not secured, I'm assuming there is a security incompatibility between BlackBerry and lenovo.

So if you turn on Mobile Hotspot and have the box checked for Allow devices to connect, and then you open the Wi-Fi settings on your Lenovo tablet, does it show your Z30 as an available Wi-Fi network?

I see that the thread title has changed from "how to create an OPEN hotspot on my z30" to "mobile hotspot".

Just to be clear, I can and frequently do use the mobile hotspot on my z30 to connect my laptop, kids I pods, etc. That isn't really the issue.

My issue is in trying to create an open (no password required) hotspot from my z30.

I have a tablet that doesn't detect BlackBerry hot spots with passwords, but will detect and connect if there is no password (open).

Have you tried to switch the band between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz?

Does the Bold or any other device see Z30 hotspot?
