There is a huge issue with people loosing the most valueable and time consuming thing to retrieve after upgrades amd testing leaks, its contacts.

In the latest version of BB Link you can back up contacts to Windows7 *may work on other OS). This will backup your contacts as a local file for each contact, you can add contacts on the computer and then sync the phone, you can sync it to other devices and edit information also, its pretty handy.

This will tell you how to do it, please ensure you have the lates BB Link and follow these steps

1) Open BB Link
2) Select your device on the left hand tab if its not already selected (phone must be connected via USB for the next step)
3) Click on Home in the left hand tab
4) Click on Reset SyncRelationships
5) Click on Contacts and Calender
6) Choose Windows7 contacts if it asks and then only check off Contacts, use the default settings or use the configure option.
7) Hit Sync (Tip: If you just loaded fresh OS on a blank device use sync one way to computer in configure settings)
8) Enjoy!

If you get a 5211 error its because you have a funky charecter in one of the contacts,m I had a emoji heart symbol in one of the contacts, I got rid of the heart and I was able to sync.

Hope this helps those who want to do a local backup because clouds suck and the government is a snooping tyrant!

Another tip: Download Fire Chest Backup free from BlackBerry World. This application allows you to back-up a whole bunch of stuff, including contacts, to your Dropbox account. AND, you can encrypt it if you're worried about security. It works exceptionally well.
