(Reuters) - Apple Inc has almost halved its order with suppliers of LCD panels for the iPhone 5 in the current quarter due to weak demand, the Nikkei reported on Monday.

Apple has asked suppliers Japan Display Inc, Sharp Corp and South Korean company LG Display Co Ltd, to cut supply, down from an initial plan to order about 65 million units in the quarter, the Japanese daily said.

Japan Display's plant in Nomi, Ishikawa Prefecture, where the iPhone maker has invested heavily, is expected to temporarily reduce output by 70 percent to 80 percent compared to the October to December period, the financial daily reported.

Sharp's dedicated facility for iPhone 5 LCD panels in Mie Prefecture will lower production in January and February by about 40 percent from the October to December quarter, when it was near full capacity, the daily said.

An Apple spokesperson was not immediately available for comment outside regular business hours.

Honestly when it is just a dogpile, I usually find that it is a good time to buy like in September with Facebook. Which worked out very well.

Relax, I/we didn't didn't write the press releases. Some of it is fact, some opinion,and some sentiment, oh yes some rumour also.

I applaud your servitude, yet I heard the same thing back in the bleak Nortel decline/collapse. At least you realize the sentiment is negative, as have many others for some time, that is the first step in coming to grasp with the inevitable. Don't take it personal, it's just that the writing is on the wall, with easily seen markers that say such.

Well that's the thing, people are figuring that out in conjunction with no new innovation and a very very old OS,so going forward it's not as rosy as it once was. The market sentiment has been saying such since $700 ($500 today). The media and a few key analyst gave them a free pass for a long time, even that sentiment has been changing, in fact the negative sentiment from them is increasing daily.

They need a new OS, that takes time, as such time will continue to increase the negative sentiment. There is no upside here if you are an investor, go look at the chart,it's nasty.

It's a fact of life, the media/analyst wants a new darling that brings innovation to the table, RIM has that in spades, so the circle continues and media sells their content, analysts jump on board etc.etc.

Catch the cycles or deny the writing on the wall, not much more complicated then that.

does make you wonder, A company can sell almost 60 million phones and over 20 million tablets in one quarter (and make over $50Billion in revenue) and its considered a disappointment. Now I'm getting a new Blackberry soon, but RIM would kill for those numbers.
