Hey guys, I just wanted your opinion on the Hdr feature in the 10.1 update. When is it best to use? For me, I can see it a bit annoying taking Hdr pictures when I want to get a lot of shots because it takes a little longer to save. But once in a while it would make sense.
Lemme know about you guys think.

I found it mostly makes a difference when facing sunlight. Check out the difference:

*There is not supposed to be 3 pictures here, only two and I cannot find the attachment to remove the extra one.

You may want to shoot in HDR when there's a really bright light source in the picture. For instance a window.

Without HDR either the the window will be over exposed (as in white) or the room will be under exposed (as in black)

Using the hdr mode you'll be able to get both well exposed.

HDR is nice to have when you are in a bright area. Try taking some pictures outside with it. They turn out great!
I like how we have the option to save the original as well.

Yeah, outside shots on a sunny day (i.e., lots of hard shadows) look amazing with HDR. Here's my brother's Corvette. Didn't take it for its aesthetic qualities, but to show how everything (shadowy areas, sky, foreground, background) looks.

How did you get it in portrait mode? Or are you using a Z10 with 10.1?

The only thing I found really annoying is that you have to be very still for HDR to come out well or else you'll end up with some fuzzy pics. I like the camera on the Z10 but just hate that it takes so long to focus. I hope the new update fixes the time frame for auto focus.

How many "HDR" threads do we need?!
    At least 17 more.....

When taking an HDR picture, the phone basicly takes three pictures: one over-exposed, one under-exposed and one with "normal" exposure. Then the software mixes all three shots together. Basicly the same way you do HDR on traditional DSLRs or compact cameras, just the inbuilt software is doing everything.
Since it is taking three pics in a row, both you and your scene should stand as still as possible.

HDR is not great for moving subjects and is for more depth of colors and details. As you first shot shows, the carpet has way more details.

Currently I wouldn't use the HDR mode in 10.1 as is. It tends to do more harm than good by over-brightening photos as well as really messing with the colour. A well tuned HDR mode should almost always produce more favourable results than a standard photo, with the exception of moving subjects.

Once BB tunes the HDR blending, you will probably want to use it for almost every scenery picture that you take.
