Traditionally we make calls using the carrier network, now we have data plans which could easily allow us to make mobile data calls such as bbm voice call, viber, etc.

Ive been wondering which method of calling consumes more power?

That's a good question. I know a video call uses more power then a normal call. I haven't seen anyone compare the consumption differences between cell & BBM Voice...

BBM Voice is being processed by several non-specialized components, while I'm pretty sure network calls are handled by application specific components which have been optimized since the days when phones lasted weeks. Given equal signal strengths, I can't imagine BBM Voice calls are more efficient than network calls.

That sounds reasonable. I suspect you are right; though I would love to see someone test it.

Also, regardless of which one uses less battery power, I will say BBM voice is clearer then Cell
