Because you can't use it on a BlackBerry. But it's not bad, it's actually 12 people video chat.

BBM voice may be free worldwide, but it doesn't let you call regular landlines or cell phone numbers free of charge. The other person has to have BBM installed. With the just released Hangouts Dialer, calls to 'regular phones' in the US and Canada can be made free of charge. I just tried the new client this morning and honestly, it's pretty awesome. Made me wonder why I have a regular phone at all since I never call anyone outside of the US or Canada.

I suppose it's because you still need to be able to receive calls from 'losers' with regular phones that don't have Google hangouts.

I'm still waiting for cross platform BBM video. I'm wondering who is creating the delay- BB or the carriers. Of course, Apple has no problems getting this done with Facetime. And now they can tout wi-fi calling (at least on Tmo) as if they were the first to offer this. Uggh!

I see Viber now (sept 11, 2014) offers cross platform video calling. I guess BB is the one holding it up on BBM. Guess they gave up on it.

Bbm video not being cross platform still is such an RIM move it makes you wonder.

Considering the hardware needed to bridge hangouts to landlines have you ever wondered why Google would do that? Google doesn't provide anything for free unless they can monetise it. How are they monetising phone calls, I wonder.

It's probably to bring people to Hangout and gain market share. And right now it may cost them so little, worst case is they call it charity..

You may as well just conference in the NSA to the call. No need to be discreet about it.
