I think BlackBerry should provide options to keep the icons big in the new OS.

The smaller icons are good for people that want to fit more icons on the screen. But for people like me who use folders to minimize the number of icons on the home screen would not know what to do with the extra space available.

Running 10.3 on my Z30, the icons seem the same size as on 10.2, minus the annoying shaded box behind.

However, on my Q10, they are noticeably smaller and more cramped.

But then, 10.3 is a leaked OS and is not intended for Q10, but instead for the Passport which will have a bigger screen.

My guess is (I hope) that when the official 10.3.1 OS drops it will be optimised for each device so Q10 and Q5 might show only 4 columns of slightly larger icons on account of the smaller screen size.

i can *see* the icons, it's just that they don't look as nice as the 10.2 ones. for some reason i prefer the bigger icons and the black box.

Why did you update? So many screen shots of the new icons for about 6 months now. Also, why are you so angry? The replies to your bratty thread are appropriate. You seem like a spoiled child. New OS has a clean efficient look, don't like it? Go autoload a previous version. Byeeeee

I agree nickipee. Also default font size (8) is to small now as well. Used to be able to comfortably read posts on the CB10 app at font size 8 in 10.2. Now I have to use size 10 in 10.3.1. Big UI fail. Hopefully they fix it.

Please try to be a bit more open minded, I understand your feelings I do. But these icons are sharp, clean, not to mention flat UI design, and may I add is very 'in' right now. regardless BlackBerry is in bracing the future of design and innovative new software ideas. So in my opinion there are going in the right direction. and the icons should remain as they now are.

    can't wait for 10.3.1. c:

Me too. I'm not updating for many reasons, icons is just one of them. Running 10.2.2 here too, find it better than 10.3.1 version.

Also, for those not going to update due to the size of the icons, I will say that the updates and improvements vastly outweigh one little quirk...just saying, but otherwise, do what you want.

10.2.2 looks much more appealing than 10.3 would have been nice to have options in settings for icons, black or different themes, more ringtones for God sakes. Why BlackBerry couldn't give us legacy tones along with the 8 that came with the phone ( z30), is mind boggling. Love the phone otherwise.

Agreed...for me it has been awhile since 10.2 as well but they don't seem any smaller. Just a little more colorful.

    - icons are cramped, lower quality and cartoon style
    - text under icons is extremely tiny (on Z10)
    - calendar is worse, less informative
    - camera autofocus is slower, never got fixed
    - keyboard flick accuracy is worse
    - browser with no Flash support (just to mention)
    - UI is like Android skin with iOS buttons, nothing innovative
    - same OS inconsistency, menus everywhere
    - same bugs in fonts scaling and text fields resizing
    - again no customizations whatsoever
    - Send button in a wrong place in Messaging
    - device monitor is still buggy
    - system apps with very minor updates
    - Weather is still showing wrong city
    - Blend software needs update badly, very basic
    - battery saving is killing performance
    - LED color notifications not new, there is an app for that
    - advanced interactions buggy (on Z10)
    - Amazon app store is very basic, doesn't have popular apps

It's not the icons size only...

I could go on to add more, such as annoying non-stop "instructional messages", or additional taps/presses/swipes to accomplish what was done with just ONE swipe, freezing in BBM and SMS, hotspot issues, volume, grey text on white UI, etc. However, I just simply after the Q10 experience, did not update the Z, and then after a week of trying with the Q's, downgraded all the phones.

Will revisit when the bugs are fixed...But for a last word on the UI, I did expect more from BB than a simple tribute to Android and OS. A little more creativity to show that BB was capable of once again leading rather than following.

I actually prefer the new smaller icons. I think the old ones where too big, specially for the Q10. After arranging the icons, I know exactly where everything is after a day or two. The new icons are big enough to be able to easily identify them. So, there is no need for bigger icons, while getting more on the screens is advantageous.
