Are you speaking about when the screen starts to time out? If so, simply touch the screen once and it will come back to full brightness.

Isn't the double-tap to wake up now a standard android thing? I know they talked about it when the Priv first came out.

No such thing in BB10, but there is the "swipe to wake" function. Go to "Settings" > "Display" > scroll down to just below "Screen timeout" setting.

Instead of the double-tap, you simply swipe up from the bottom bezel and it turns on the screen and unlocks the phone - or brings up the password screen if you have one set.
