Default Does BB10 need BIS plan?

    Hi guys,
Can somebody please clear up whether or not we need a BIS plan on BB10 or not, I've tried looking this up but can't seem to find a direct answer.
    Thanks.

I'm also interested in this. Does BBM work without a BIS plan or is there a way to purchase a BBM subscription on BBW? I want to move to a prepaid carrier and there are few (if any) Blackberry plans.

I'm hearing from a few carriers here in the UK that it doesn't require BIS.

That appears to be the case, Telus won't even allow you to bring over your "unlimited BBM" plans or anything similar to BlackBerry 10:

Note: Existing BlackBerry customers with unlimited Social, unlimited Email & IM, or unlimited BBM plans must choose a new plan as their existing plans will result in data overage charges.

Current iPhone, Windows Phone, Android and BlackBerry customers on plans with megabyte buckets will be able to keep their existing plan.

I have just had the same conversation with Vodafone UK while processing my upgrade for the Z10.
Apparently the data compression is different and therefore it will come out of the data allowance you select.
I might now just have to have a few moments with my 9800 to say goodbye.

Just been told some of this by my other half who just got email from vodafone.

Basically said, BB10 doesnt need blackberry specific APN/bolt on a standard one will do, and that bb10 doesnt work with current bes (sounds mad)

Does this mean the handsets now directly collect email? or will the bis website continue as is?

BIS was always handy for me in a tech support role as i could configure users handsets for them when asked and remotely.

Mad? Perhaps, but true. BB10 requires an upgrade to BES10.

From everything I've read, email is delivered directly to the phone. Same way other handset OSes have operated for several years, via direct ActiveSync and / or IMAP connections.

...and... what about pop3 accounts that don't have the IMAP option?

Although it would be one huge complicated process, surely if the lack of BIS is that much of a deal-breaker it could be re-initiated by way of an install OTA at a later date?

What if we want to still have BIS and BES? Can we keep them?

I travel every week abroad, data roaming charges will kill me. With actual BB plans I pay a flat fee no matter where in the world I go.

    Hi
Can anyone confirm solidly that z10 does not need BIS plan?
I have it installed but recently I have been having problems with my email account. It keeps being disconnected and a forum in BB support advised that Z10 need special mod network for BIS to work and some operators does not have it yet.

If truly BIS plan is not needed, then my data plan from Orange is quite extensive

    Thanks

I have a iphone data plan took my sim put it in the Z10 and voila... Data works fine, bbm works fine, bbm calls is fine etc... So no you don't need a bis plan to make use of your new Z10.

if your network provider keeps the BIS plan for people on older BBOS, you can continue using it with your Z10.

if at anytime you choose to not subscribe to a BIS plan and you want to use just vanilla data plan that androids and IOS devices use, BB10 will not skip a bit

The traditional BIS/BES data plans offer no advantage over generic data plans when you move to a BlackBerry 10 smartphone. There is disagreement about BIS/BES data plans causing problems for BlackBerry Z10 users.

No BIS means no more unlimited data plans, no more unlimited data roaming too. I cancelled my data roaming service for fear of incurring ridiculous & accidental data roaming charges whilst overseas. Will depend on hotel WIFI and wherever else.
