I noticed with 10.3.2.#### that we received the "Amazon" app in addition to the "Amazon appstore" app we have had since 10.3.

I'm not quite sure why we have two apps since I get Amazon installed android app update notifications from them both, which leads me to believe that the Amazon app can install and manage apps like the Amazon appstore can, in addition to all the other stuff it can do.

The Amazon app also seems to install updates faster than the appstore app when I chose to use it to update apps. The appstore app seems to sit at "installing" forever after it downloads an update.

Does anyone know if the Amazon appstore app can do something the Amazon app can't? If not, does anyone know why BlackBerry is pushing both to us?

The one that can shop stuff can also search for and install apps. This appears to make the other one redundant.

Good observation regarding the redundancy of Appstore and Amazon with respect to apps. I also noticed that Amazon sometimes beats Appstore with app update notifications.

I would venture that Appstore is much better for sourcing apps than Amazon, and of course Amazon has everything on offer from 'A to Z.'

I keep having an issue where the Amazon app is always running and is using up insane amounts of my battery according to the device monitor app (10% of total usage), even though I closed it.

Also, the permissions for Amazon apps are locked.

I think they differ in their integration w/bbOS notifications, hub, etc...

Good find. I had never even opened the Amazon app, I just put it in an Unused Items folder.

My guess would be they pushed the second Amazon app to prevent the confusion many would have had if there was no longer an Amazon App Store.

Locked permissions for Amazon include access to camera and microphone. Why? Is it an app to spy on us?

lol, relax. Asking you if you know what BBOS means is not diatribe at all. It is the second thread I noticed your misunderstanding of BBOS.

BBOS has to do with the old BlackBerry phones, pre-BlackBerry 10, the so-called Legacy devices. It stands for BlackBerry OS.

So it seems like the Amazon appstore app is redundant to the Amazon app. I don't like two apps both running in the background periodically (eating battery eve if it is a small amount) checking for the exact same thing.

I'm going to try logging out of the appstore app to see if I can get it to stop checking and just rely on the Amazon app.

No dice... signing out of the appstore app signs you out in both apps. Signing back into the Amazon app signs you back into the Amazon appstore.

I wish there was a way to block an Android from running in the background. Ideally I would uninstall the redundant appstore app.

Go to Settings > Security and Privacy > Application Permissions and disable Run When Minimized for one or both Amazon apps. Also a good time to check status of all Android apps as this setting does impact battery life.

I've tested that before with Android apps and that doesn't stop them from running in the background/headless. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a way to get the two apps from checking the same thing periodically throughout the day.
