Are you synchronising with a third-party service such as Box or DropBox? I get this message during sync ops due to the way the files are cached prior to transfer.

Had this happen. It's a software bug. Only fixable by wiping. It's an os cache that doesn't clear I think. Update or something that caches and never clears itself

    Yeah sure!

    I have a Q10 running OS 10.2.1.2141.

In the Device Monitor, under Storage, here's what I get:

    System: 9.55 GB
    Apps: 1.75 GB
    User files: 677 MB
    Free: 1.22 GB

I have almost everything on my 64 GB microSD memory card. It is my understanding that all the apps are stored on the internal storage. I do not have that many apps on my phone and those that I do have are all under 100 MB. This is why I couldn't understand why I've been constantly receiving these notifications.

So, does this mean that wiping the phone and starting fresh is my only option?

I am in fact using DropBox but have not set it to sync automatically. Is there a way that I can access these cached files and get rid of them?

Have any files pinned on DropBox? Those tend to get stored on the device too

Post a Screenshot of that page
Or what are the top 5 apps in that list? (wait for it to finish loading)

A restart usually wipes the cache of transferred files. I had this happen when transferring movies from my sd to Box...it caches on the device until restart (or there may be a set time frame for cache wipe-not sure). no need to wipe and reload though.

The system usually takes 1.8-1.9Gb so definitely there is the problem. I don't think you can rectify the problem other way then re-installing the OS. I recommend you using the 10.2.1.2947 OS thru autoloader to wipe all problems you have. The latest leak. 2947 , is a great OS.

One of my LE's filled to 15.6GB with no apps installed. One email. Facebook. And that's it.

I could really only tell that it was so full via settings > storage and access

It was running a 10.0 build at the time so I assumed it was an old long ago resolved bug...

Also as an FYI. When the device gets full, you stop receiving text messages and notifications.

This isn't about the full notifications. It's about system taking unnecessary extra space... it shouldn't be more that 2gb..

Can someone please point me in the right direction to reload an official OS. I am familiar with installing leaks.. is it just a matter of doing a security wipe?

So, once wiped, will this problem persist if I use previous backup files?

Not sure. If the glitch is in the backup you will have to do it again without restoring. So try first time with restore and if you experience again the problem then just re-install, wipe and add everything back manually

I'm familiar installing leaks too. If you need a official OS just install a leak same OS number or install a lower OS leak and then you will be prompted by you're carrier to update to the official OS.

Ok... figured it out. I was using remote access to sync videos to my computer. What I noticed was that a whole bunch of folders had a sync icon. At this point, I had 9gigs of system usage. I revisited the folders with the sync icon and held the folder down and selected 'sync'. Once the folder was completely synced, the system data usage dropped down by 500mb (size of the video).

Looks like syncing may cache until it is fully completed - as others have suggested.

Nope. Or at least it didn't for me. I had this issue once when I had issues trying to DL a movie. Did backup and the restored that same backup and my system storage was back to normal.
