    Hello,

I would appreciate advice how much data one would need to buy when upgrading to Q10 or Q5?

The old blackberry had data compressed etc.

I understand its how long a piece of string etc but would appreciate some ideas what data package to get?

    thanks

I went from 500mb to a 6gb plan, just to be safe, carrier gave me a great deal.

Others I know went from 500mb to 2gb. and are doing well.

My wife barely uses 700mb a month with BBM, Facebook, Browsing and texting.

I use almost 100mb a day with my Z10. With only twitter, fb, CB, email, BBM and WhatsApp .

Does Z10 actually eat up too much data or my carrier is actually playing tricks?

It depends on so many different things that it's hard for anyone here to make a recommendation. Two things that I'd say will have the most impact are: 1. What do you use your device for? and 2. What kind of connection do you use mostly?

If you spend a lot of time streaming video or music or browsing data intensive websites you'll use a lot more data then someone who only uses their BB for e-mail, BBM and Whatsapp. That doesn't necessarily mean you'll need a large data plan though, if you mostly use those services in places where you have access to WiFi you might end up using only a little bit of mobile data after all. But then again, if you mostly use it without a WiFi connection you will need a larger data plan.

One thing I have noticed, the faster the connection you have access to, the more I'll be tempted to use it. A faster connection means less frustration using it and I'll find myself using it more than I would otherwise for that reason. It becomes just too easy to get distracted and open more sites, videos or whatever because I'm not limited by speed. But when I'm in locations where I only have access to a slower connection, I find myself only using the device for things I really need.
Of course, having access to a faster (non Wi-Fi) network such as LTE, your device will be processing more data in a shorter time. If you are like me and you'll end up using the data services more because it is easier, you could wind up using a lot of data in a short time.

All of that being said, I find myself -for now- happy with a 2GB bundle. I live in an area where LTE is not yet enabled and where my 3G coverage is terrible. For that reason my device is set to 2G when I'm at home and I use WiFi there or whenever I can. I only use the 3G network when I'm out and about, and even then I am often unable to use my BB -all cellphones must be turned off where I work- so currently my data usage is much lower than I had feared it would be.

I use just under 2gb a month. That is mostly emails, very little BBM and IM and surfing using my pb every weekday for around 5 hours a day so 100mb a day for what you're doing doesn't sound out of line. I don't stream anything and watch very few youtube videos.

This using a 9850 as a host though.

General rule of thumb would be to double your current usage. I went from 500MB per month to about 1.1GB per month on my Z10.

EDIT: Had my kb, mb, and gb all mixed up. Serves me right for posting before my morning coffee!

Went from 500mb (using 9790) to 1gb (using z10). I can safely say I use just over 500mb a month and in wifi areas almost half the day. If I wasn't in wifi, I'd be well over 2gb a month.

I have a pop account setup for work and there's no option yet to avoid auto download of attachments (for pop accounts), I receive about 20-30 emails a day so only that takes a good amount of data.

I had a 1GB data plan on my bold 9900.I had to go up to 6GB as I was blowing through 1GB well before the month was up. I've just checked and I am Just over 3GB half way through my cycle. I have watched a couple of movies and have used my Z-10 as a hot spot for my PlayBook.

It really depends on your actual usage as well as the question, how often you have access to wifi in order to keep your data usage down.

For example I got a free, welcomed upgrade from 300 to 500 MB per month just after buying my Q10. With my Bold 9900, I usually had a monthly data usage somewhere between 300 and 350 MB. With my Q10, even though my usage hasn't changed, this upped to roughly 480 MB per month.

I've use around 1GB + a month sometimes more. I came from a bold 9900 and let me tell you, the z10 eats data like a hog. With my old bold I would use around 200mb a month. Big difference with the Z10. My regular usage: facebook, CB10, emails, texts and some browsing. I don't watch YouTube videos for fear I might go over my data plan. I currently have 2GB data plan. I always connect to wifi when I get home. You will need at least 1GB data plan to make it through a month, maybe more but you can judge for yourself and adjust accordingly. Good luck and enjoy the Q10.

With just some BBM, Twitter and IM you really shouldn't get 100 MB daily. As already said, my Q10 eats roughly 450 to 500 MB per month and my usage is mostly: BBM, Twitter, webbrowsing and of course E-Mails. No Youtube or other data-heavy streaming services for me!

Of course if you often visit data-heavy sites like tumblr or 9gag, your data usage can also spike up quite a bit.

I use between 800 and 1GB a month on my Z10, data usage the same as on my old iPhone 4S.

All data hungry usage (youtube, vevo, ETC) is done over wifi.

I dont visit that kind of site to be honest. That's why I think my carrier is playing tricks on me. I have limited data plan of 1gb and I have to top it up in order to continue using data services. Considering changing carrier.

I used about 1 GB on my iPhone and that was heavy usage. I hope to use at most 1.5gb a month on my BB10. I'm on the ShareEverything plan, though, and my parents have iPhones. They rarely ever top off over 500mb each, and we have the share everything with 6gb. For the most part, I will be the one using the most data, so I'm fine with that, and so are they. Respectively, though, I almost always use wi-fi where available. If I go to my friend's houses I always ask them for their wifi. I turn it on habitually every time I go somewhere that has it available or I know I have it saved. I would never spend much time watching videos/etc. over data unless I really had to.
