If you have a stl 100-3 is it ok to update (via sim) from a carrier that's pushing updates for stl 100-1/2 phones?

I don't know if it has been tested and verified. However, the worst thing that should happen is for it to tell you the software you have is the current version. Since the actual update comes from BlackBerry (at least that is how it appears to work) you should probably get the correct model version or, nothing at all.

It's not ok because the radio files are specific to each model, and it won't work.

There are already specific upgrades available for the ST100-2 and ST100-3, just check on the forums and you will find the links. I've posted a few already as well.

You can check an update of any Z10 via web. Just go to BlackBerry - Software Updates - New Update Software for BlackBerry Smartphones - US from the internet explorer or firefox. After that find the "Check Update" but make sure your z10 is off. When the update ask for the PIN turn on the z10 and as soon it detects the PIN of your z10 click OK and it will detect if there is an update for your z10. Just follow the online instruction afterwards. If with SIM it won't detect, try to do the above without SIM. Hope this helps.
