Any hope of support with the upcoming OS 10.3 by the end of the year?

Not sure if VPN profiles is what you're looking for, but it's there in network connections.

So I will wait and hopefully the new update will have it. Don't know why they don't have it.

I guess OpenVPN isn't used in enterprise as much as the ones supported. It's probably a lot of effort and expense on resources, without much payment for their efforts. Maybe they got some vendor to pay them not to put it in there.

If your service support Ikev2, then you're in luck.

Yes, they've put the network profile in back with the release of 10.2 IIRC. So far nobody has done anything with it. With the latest indications that BlackBerry is going to focus on enterprise I don't expect them to. I gave up waiting and went the IPSec route. First by using a commercial VPN provider, lately using an Amazon EC2 virtual host which then uses OpenVPN to tie into my personal VPN.

So is thus a work around to not having PPTP VPN on BB10? I too would like to connect to my workplace that has PPTP....so the commercial vpn-Amazon-open vpn setup may do this?

No, PPTP is different from either true IPSec and OpenVPN.

Many people have been looking for a way to connect the Playbook or Blackberry 10 device to a VPN server. There is a strong interest in OpenVPN, which is presently not supported on BB10. The VPN client that is built into the operating system supports a connection to 10 different types of VPN servers, some of which require specific hardware like Checkpoint, Cisco, Juniper or Microsoft.

However, there is a Gateway Type of Generic IKEv2 VPN Server, which will talk to any VPN Server (hardware or software) that supports the IKEv2 protocol and fortunately it's been supported by BB10 as well.
The following visual configuration guide could give you better idea of IKEV2 setup on BB10:

Unfortunately, it seems OpenVPN has not been fully integrated into the OS yet (UI is missing). BlackBerry loves hardware vendors (and Microsoft)...
