Out of the 3 categories in Blackberry Link (Application Data, Media, Settings) which category do text messages fall under?

I want to transfer text messages only from the Z10 to Q10, but Link is limited in what you can select.

I'm guessing texts are under either Application Data or Settings..

    Thanks in advance!

I'll let others reply. But I'm not certain those transfer at all outside if the account

To transfer text messages you will need to use BlackBerry Protect

I know from a previous restore using BlackBerry Link, the Reminder, Password keeper, and call logs data are stored in settings. You would think they would be in application data. I don't remember if text messages were in there as well though.

I know OS 7 Protect had a lot more options. Just like the old desktop software had more options.

I just logged in to Protect and clicked the data tab, but the message said to check out blackberry link...

I don't think you can do it from Protect either.

Maybe there's no current solution.. unfortunately.

Correct. There is no current solution although this has been submitted as a feature request. Text messages are stored in your app data backup file as with every other app on your device. This is one reason why that particular file is so huge. Hopefully BlackBerry will deliver on more options for selective backups and restores.

Ahh. So it IS in the Application Data backup... Then just like you said, that means all the apps + associate data will be restored as well.

In theory to minimize that App Data file, I suppose the workaround is to delete all the apps I don't want to carry over, get a backup on BB Link, and restore Application Data on the new device and the text messages should be there.

    Yep. That could work.

But in which app data files are the text messages stored?
