" jumped ahead of the pack"
Now that's what I like to hear! - 12-18-2012, 09:15 AM #4
I think what we're going to see in the next few years is Android, iPhone, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 all with comparable market shares and VERY stiff competition. In the past few years it seems as though innovation had stopped in the smartphone market because of the duopoly of Android and iOS. I think now competition and hence innovation will start up again. Look at the Nokia Lumia 920, its way ahead of any Android or iPhone when it comes to innovation. Gloved typing, 60hz refresh rate, astounding low light performance. It seemed as though iPhone and Android were just making money and doing the bare minimum improvements. Now with BB10 and WP8 in the race, competition will heat up again and now Apple and Google will have to do something to keep their market share.

Agreed. . .but what I would really like to see is RIM becoming a staple in the enterprise and government space again. . .this along with their aspirations in the infotainment and other spaces will hopefully make them the most unique and stable proposition out of the other runners. . .
*Jack of all trades can still be a master of some (. . .Hopefully)*

Great video and thanks for the post. I think this is the RIM we didn't see in the past. They paid good money to get a chance to present for these people at Deal Book, and I bet it's going to pay off.

It's good that RIM is targeting a major news outlet that has been rather destructive of the BlackBerry brand in the past (which I'm guessing is one of the reasons why they chose the NYT). I remember a while back when the NYT falsely reported that RIM was "abandoning" the physical keyboard, and then there was that infamous "BlackBerry as Black Sheep" article...

That NYT article was completely ridiculous. The people covered in the piece who were ashamed to be seen with their BB phones were completely shallow and superficial. The article simply proved that people who see their mobile as a fashion accessory don't like BB's. Good. Let them have their iPhones.

We're takin' it back! - 12-18-2012, 11:41 PM #14
As ridiculous as it was, it was read by a massive audience. Hopefully efforts like this conference and the advertisements in the New York Times will help to repair some of the damage done... However, seeing as how RIM had paid them an "undisclosed amount" for the ad, it kind of irks me that the NYT gets ahead in the end... That's business though. Perhaps RIM will be the one with the last laugh.
