Tried this a little earlier. Went to File Manager, then downloads, selected APK file, shared it using NFC to my android tablet. Installed like a charm. So, if you have an Android app on your BB that they don't have, you ARE the play store. Sent same apk to brothers BB and again, installed like a charm. Just thought I would mention....

The safer thing to do would be to send them to the Play Store though.

I've been using Bluetooth (since my Samsung doesn't have NFC) but same effect. Nice and easy transferring files between the two!

Did it last night with a woman I knew. Asked her if she had Waze and she said no. So, brought out my phone and sent it to her LG and wallah! ...it was on her phone. note that she had to allow installing from a different source, but it worked great.

She was wowed, and said "how did you do that?"

    I said, "I have a BlackBerry"

Did you remind her to disable allowing third-party installation?

If I read her right, I don't think she would allow third party installations anyway.

I've passed along APK's from Snap to a few people on BB using NFC. First time they've used NFC in the couple of cases, they never even knew what it was.

So she ended up getting an apk that wasn't vetted?

This is cool, but I wouldnt say this would impress them. Cause they have the real playstore in their phone

Beautiful luxury, to be sure; I hate that every Android app that I ask for permissions is given more than BlackBerry would request. I keep telling myself that this evens the playing field. Not to be the Debbie Downer of the group...but it crosses my mind, every time.

The other thing is I can leave the apk files on my computer and download them remotely to my phone.

Btw, people. Off that topic, but mobogenie allows most, not all, android apps to be updated instead of deleting and reinstalling app.

But that depends on your location. The Play Store here in the Caribbean is crap, you can't even download the Facebook app or WhatsApp from it, so most people use 1mobile, which really isn't that safe. I normally get to grab apk's from Snap, so I transfer those to them via NFC if they need them, a safer method for them and one more use for NFC for the all of us.
