I followed this from Lifehacker.com, according to this article apparently BBM is the biggest drain on a smartphone battery over the rest of the chat apps such as WhatsApp and FB messenger. For those wishing to skip, it's saying BBM sends out a radio signal 343 times per megabyte of data; conversely Windows Live connects only 5 times per megabyte.

Messaging, Video Among Top Battery-Draining Apps

Now, I'm not super-chatty on BBM but it is my most-used messenger. I'm finding the info to be slightly misleading, but perhaps this is only how it works on BB10, and what she's reporting is how it works on iOS and Android. I use BBM with my wife who has an iPhone 4s, and it hasn't adversely affected her battery; also I haven't heard from other friends that it's hurting them either.

    My BBM usage since Sunday:

I'm not sold on it either, even ahead of further info. Plus, following the article's advice of uninstalling an app to see if it helps the drain, well, sure it will - it's no longer being used. That's what leads me to believe it's just for iOS and Android, since BBM isn't an app that can be uninstalled. With BBOS I believe it had to shrunk out prior to install, but my memory's a little fuzzy having not had to do that in a couple years.

My son has a Galaxy S4 and he claims BBM was hard on his battery performance. I guess he has some sort of monitor on it that says what is using the most power.
He downloaded BBM to use on a vacation in the US so he wouldn't have to text.

Does it show network(s) use as well? If yes, then there might be something in there that supports the article findings.

I have recently updated my Q10 to 10.2.1.2179. Why is my battery draining so much faster now? Kevin
