Is BBM working without the BlackBerry data option? In my case it seems like, canceled my BlackBerry data option a week ago, BBM wasn't working then... until I upgraded my OS to 10.0.10.90... now BBM is working again!
Is this a bug or a feature?

Thank you, I do have a normal data option, just canceled the BlackBerry specific one I needed for my 9700.
Great news! Makes me love my Z10 even more!

Sorry, but this is dead wrong.

As of BB10, the "BlackBerry Service" is optional and only available for BES users; ie the Enterprise Server you install behind your company's firewall.

I say optional because corporate users can connect directly using ActiveSync.

The former uses the BlackBerry Service, the latter uses common data plans.

Mass Market users will not have the option; carrier's data plan is the only way to connect.

BBM will need a data plan.

i heard someone was able to take out his sim card, connect on wifi only and use bbm on Z10

You don't need blackberry data plans for BBM to work anymore. I have a regular data plan with koodo and bbm works fine.
