Hi,
For my own education, can someone explain the role of BBM is certain apps.?
For what I can tell, BBM is way more than a messenger. Most apps seem to require to connect to BBM, or require permissions for it.
Why for example a wallpaper changer, or a weather app needs to connect to BBM? It seems unrelated ....
I don't use the messenger myself. So if I remove BBM (if it's even possible), would BB10 would still work at all?
Just trying to understand BBM's role in the OS.

It's all about sharing to BBM, you can share your weather through BBM via the app etc.

Also if one of your Bbm contact goes into your bbm profile they can see which apps you have installed, if you have allowed them to connect to Bbm.

Applications don't need to connect to BBM to allow staring over BBM. The connection allows the application to share your application status (like game scores) with your BBM contacts. And if they ever implement application to application over BBM in BB10 it would allow a chess game to feature play with a BBM contact, for example.

Thank you all. Actually I just noticed today when I launched an app (email for google gmail) a popup with "connecting to BBM" showed up and got stuck with an endless spinning wheel ...
I had to cancel although the app seems to work fine.
I tried a couple more apps and they all got stuck in the same "connecting to BBM" window.
Any idea what the problem can be?
