    Hi folks,

Do any of you have a recommendation for a BBM alternative? Ideally it would be cross platform.

As much as I've tried to get people onto BBM (non BB users), it's not reliable enough on their phones to be taken seriously.

    Thanks in advance!

I've been trying configure Whatsapp. It keeps telling my phone number is invalid! LOL. Hardly promising.

If you're using BB10, I guess you have access to a myriad of chat apps from Android. I like hangouts but I don't know if this works in BB10. Simple, easy, Android integration and also available on iPhone. I like Skype a lot. Kik, Whats App.

WeChat is best alternative for me. Almost all of my contacts are on BBM but I do use WeChat for those times when someone can't get on BBM for whatever reason.

WhatsApp is well supported on BlackBerry 10, it's a much better experience than Skype.

The Google chat app is certainly no Hangouts so give that a miss.

Whatscrap is well supported on BlackBerry 10 with a very clear motive I'd say. Won't use that if I was the last one on earth without those apps that do nothing more than invade people's privacy. Only the IMs that ask for a request and approval of such SHOULD be worth one's time and mentioning.

I have no choice but to use WhatsApp, because that is what the majority of my acquaintance uses. In my country, the most common IM service used is WhatsApp and WeChat.

I say go with whatever the most common one used by your friends, family or colleague, or your potential clients (if you're a business personel). It's not about your choice, it's the masses'.

If you aren't using BBM because other people aren't using it the don't you pretty much have to use what they are using if you can? That's the nature of social media. You don't have much of a say in what other people choose to use.

It's your choice, many people wouldn't trust WeChat for the same reasons.

True thing yes. You know it's funny how we as consumers sometimes get caught up in brand arguments while the people who designed and created most of these things don't give a crap about our existence.. lol. #onelove

China don't have Skype, they still are on MSN Messenger, for example.

The ports are currently not really good though.
If you've got a full-touch device and don't use umlauts, go for DianBao.
If not, use the normal .APK.

    #1 choice, BBM
    #2 choice, WhatsApp
    #3 choice, Wechat
    #4 choice, Telegram
    #5 choice, Mxit (not advised)
    #6 choice GroupMe (not advised)

As far as I know, those are the major instant messaging apps at the moment. All work perfectly on BlackBerry.

    Telegram.

Cross-platform for real. It has apps for mac, windows, Linux, android, iphone, browser-based and I had no problems with it on the Classic since I bought it.

Always works well (the android apk version) without a significant impact on battery.

Notifications work, it shows in the hub, but it's not fully integrated so it doesn't look as good as a native app.
