    Hello,

I'm running a Z30 device on an unsupported carrier.

I have a very good EDGE connection that can browse the web just fine. The problem is I cannot utilize BB services on EDGE. The BB logo on the top right doesn't appear when on EDGE, even though I have a decent connection.

I even tried registering the device from the "about" menu under settings, it says it registered, but still no BB service.

The BB service works immediately when I switch to Wifi.

I was under the impression that BB10 needs any normal data plan to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

    UPDATE:

    The plot thickens!

I can confirm that it isn't my carrier but most likely my Z30.

What I did was, I removed the sim card from the Z30, put it in my android device. I setup a WiFi hotspot from the android device being fed EDGE data from the Sim card. I connected the z30 to it over WiFi and guess what, it worked. I have full BB services.

So this confirms that the issue comes from the Z30 and not the carrier, unless I'm missing something.

Sure but on unsupported carriers you need to also consider that the APN is likely not being input correctly, which is why you're likely not getting faster access... the device doesn't know where it's supposed to be looking for the faster access. Where did you purchase the device? Is it genuinely manufacturer unlocked or just carrier unlocked?

The Z30 was purchased unlocked from the Blackberry Store in the UAE, Dubai.

I traveled outside of the UAE to Yemen, put my Yemen sim card into the device, entered the carrier's APN settings (the same settings needed to get my Android connected).

It connects fine on all fronts but the BB service.

    Thank you for your support!

Just to add some details. It's not the speed of the internet because I am able to access all BB services using a wifi 128kbps connection which is slower than the EDGE speed I get.

My only explanation is that the EDGE is being routed through a different path than the wifi connection.

The EDGE speed I'm getting is very nice (for EDGE), everything works, just not BB logo and BBM doesn't work.

appreciate any help I can get.

The APN had nothing to do with speed. Pls ignore this incorrect information.

Are you able to browse the Internet via EDGE? If yes, then your data connection is ok. If not - talk to the carrier.

BlackBerry services are not required for anything else than BBM.

Sorry. You already wrote browsing was ok via EDGE.

Something is blocking the connection to BlackBerry. Call the carrier.

Could be the carrier messing with you. I'm not sure.

    Swipe down for settings,
    Settings,
    Network and connections,
    Mobile network,
    Cog at base of screen

The APN settings need entered correctly for your carrier, (you can get this from carrier website, may not list BlackBerry so you might need to look at android settings) -

Make sure these are correct before looking into anything else!

But I already get EDGE and non BB services work just fine, doesn't this mean the APN settings are correct?

I've seen this on Etisalat before. Some carriers force BIS on BB10. If an ordinary data plan is used, all Internet-based apps would work except for BlackBerry services.

Maybe your Yemeni carrier only allows BIS plans for your Z30.

Redsaph> sounds very plausibel, but all the bb10 need is the "internet" APN.

If the user can browse this seems ok, but something is blocking access to BlackBerry services.

    Call the carrier...

If he needs the correct APN, there are probably 2-3 different APNs: prepaid/pay-as-you-go internet APN, postpaid APN and BIS APN.

Could be your carrier blocking Unknown BlackBerry devices in some way.

By using your Android the network never sees the BlackBerry. It's a link shot and would reveal pool implementation of their blocking mechanism.

    Have you called them yet?

    Thank you, you're spot on!

I got in touch with them. They are blocking it.

I'm starting a new thread to see if this can be resolved.

    Thank you,
