Anyone have insight into the performance of the Android runtime with apk files as opposed to bar files. I imagine there would be a performance boost running native files on the runtime ( apk files).

the apk files you installed with .1055 are converted to bars anyway? at least that's how I remove them with the google extension if it doesn't work and I want to remove it.

Both BAR files and APK files are just ZIP files with slightly different contents. There is no difference between the executable content of an APK and the corresponding BAR file. That's why you don't need the source code to create a BAR file for an Android application. The Java code that runs on the Dalvik VM would be the same. There may be differences in the way native ARM binary object code is packaged, though I doubt that is even the case. The underlying machine code would be the same. So there is no reason to suspect that one would have an advantage over the other.
