Waze or even BlackBerry maps can't seem to get my location. I'm just in my hotel room near the window 14th floor. So I don't think obstructions are an issue.

I also used blackberry virtual expert and it detected gps satellites successfully, so I'm not sure what's wrong.

    Anyone else having this issue?

Check your apps permission under Settings > Security and Privacy > Application Permissions > Location

And check if your hotel window is not shielded (thin layer of metal to stop hot infrarouge rays from the sun).

This. The film they retro fitted to my office windows limits heat transfer and provides about 25 dB attenuation at 1.2 GHz. This added to the limited view of the sky from a high rise window can make getting a fix extremely difficult.

Thanks guys. But this also happens to me when I'm in the car. So do cars also have this thin layer of metal on their windows?

But when I use Nike running app, my gps works fine.

Of course. There is a patch clear of this layer on the windshield. You have to inquire at your car manufacturer though. Usually, it's in the bottom-corner on the driver's side.

Test it under the sun without this type of glass between you and the cloud. If it's working right, you'll know what the problem is.

Walked outside an got good signal. So probably it's really those windows/windshield coating.

I guess it's really for outdoor use

    Thanks!
