A number of home audio/video apps want to be able to put the WiFi interface into Multicast mode in order to discover the various devices on your network. Most of them (e.g. Onkyo's) fail instantly when that is not available -- and it's not on the BB10 Android runtime.

Others instead complain, which is why I know what kills the Onkyo app. And this is a real bummer, because that (and others in its class) are EXTREMELY useful application for those who own compatible equipment, as are the other ones available for Android.

BlackBerry, are you listening? This is a pretty trivial thing to enable, and it would be quite useful!

I want an app to work with my Chromecast (so far couldn't find any - to send videos from my phone to the device).
The only casting that works is sending videos from the Android YouTube app.
LocalCast and AllCast don't detect my Chromecast on the network.

Probably the same issue -- most of these sorts of devices broadcast a "beacon" on multicast, which is how discovery of them works. This is a pretty good system as without special considerations being taken it's network-local and thus prevents someone who can't connect to the local network from being able to "see" the device.

No multicast support = these apps all fail.

I need this too! Android apps become crippled on BB10 for no good reason.

Tickerguy, you are at BlackBerry guru status, maybe you can call Blackberry. Eventually you can get kicked up to the people with the answers.
