Ok, so in preparing for the transition to Android (which for me seems imminent), I've purchased a Huawei P9 lite.

First impression is quite good. I'm loving the speed and the way it does tasks. The OS does seem quite rock solid and a vast improvement on when I last used a Android, back in 2012. That experience was not good.

However, there are some things that Android just don't have that I've grown to love with BlackBerry.

    1: The darn blinking light.
I so love the bright flashing red light on my BlackBerry notifying me that I have a message / event. All I'm offered is a faint light that just don't really measure up.

    2: quick communication.
I love the instant chat that is presented with BBM and whatsapp. The idea of replying to a message instantly and without leaving the app that I'm currently on, is just a real dream with BB10.

    3: it's all so bright.
I know the dark theme is not fully integrated on BBM, but the areas where I can change it makes such a welcome feature. With this Android, it's all so bright with no dark option.

4: do I need an app for that!
The stock Android is ok.. but I'm just so loving the stock apps that come with my BB10. Though a addition and a welcome to this Huawei P9 lite is the ability to delete almost all the apps that came with device. First folder I emptied was "Games".

Overall, I'm going to really miss BB10 when I make the switch fully. To me, BB10 was just the best there is and it be a right shame. BUT, life goes on and after all, it's just a phone OS. Well, isn't it!

    1. Android supports LED notifications but not all devices have them built in. I don't know about the P9 but the Priv and DTEK50 do for example (the latter is only a white LED)

    2. I believe in newer versions of Android you can respond to messages through notifications if the app supports it

I am quite sure that other users have reported the same. It was one concern I had about the eventual move to Android (if there is never a BB10 Version of the Priv, I won't hold out forever...). In Android, they have 'toast notifications' which are the equivalent of 'instant replies' in BB10. I am not 100 percent sure that they work regardless of what app you are in when the messages are received but my impression is that they work exactly the same.

All the things that you listed either vary with the device or by app. None of that is really android's fault.

Indeed. And that is part of my point! Too many variations...

With BB10 the same is through out, REGARDLESS of device. It's it supports BB10, then the experience is the same... pretty much!

That means, BBM needs to add support for that feature, but I could swear that in fact that feature works with BBM on Priv

Op I think your post's title should be changed to "Huawei P9 lite - is just not the same" since it does not represent stock android. If you really want a stock android device then the Nexus 6p the best option.

    Ok.

Can you please explain what differences i'll have (aside from the toast working on messages)?

I ask, as I think this version of Android slightly stock (there no app from the manufacture that I can't delete).

(pardon my ignorance, but I'm still quiet new to the Android world)

Maybe go into notification settings for the BBM app. It may be disabled.
